Come on Down to Rainbow Con!

Hey, everyone, and welcome to Amethyst Daydreams, which has been temporarily taken over by the peeps at RainbowCon! As the post title suggests, we're here to tell you a little about RainbowCon and where you can find more information. Ready, set, GO!

The Rainbow Conference (aka RainbowCon) is a four-day GLBTQ multimedia conference taking place in Tampa, Florida July 16th through 19th, 2015. Our motto is to celebrate artistic diversity, and we welcome anyone who enjoys GLBTQ content in media from books to movies and beyond. Our first con was in April 2014, and after such a resounding success, we can't wait to get the party started at 2015's event, which is coming up in just another month!

RainbowCon started up in 2013 when three writers/readers of GLBTQ fiction saw an opportunity to fill the void of conventions focusing on GLBTQ content. I can't tell you how many times my co-author (S.L. Armstrong), her husband (Roger), and I have attended conventions and thought, "Aw, man! This is great 'n' all, but there's only one panel about non-het stuff!" It's incredibly common for mainstream conventions to only have one or two panels about slash fiction or perhaps gay fiction, if they have any content like that at all. What's even more depressing is how that content is usually automatically deemed "ADULTS ONLY" and shoved into a late-night slot like the proverbial ugly redheaded stepchild. But, as far as we're concerned, that ugly redheaded stepchild deserves some love, too!

Thankfully, there are exceptions to the rules like Yaoi-Con (part of Anime North up in Toronto, Canada) and smaller events like OutlantaCon, which take pride in being "those people... over there... in that room" (read: outcasts), and we salute them! Their all-inclusive approach to honoring GLBTQ themes in anime/manga and comics/games, respectively, is exactly the kind of thing that inspired us to step up and create our own con.

RainbowCon began as a GLBTQ convention centering specifically around fiction, both for readers and writers, but as we move into our second year, we've expanded our programming to be more inclusive. We're happy to announce that we're embracing all the arts. While there's still a strong core of panels and workshops available for fans of GLBTQ fiction, we've also added content for GLBTQ topics and characters in television, movies, web-comics, theatre, and fandom. There's something for everyone at RainbowCon, and we want everyone who attends to have an amazing time!

Our Guests of Honor this upcoming year are Alex Woolfson and Adam DeKraker, the writer and illustrator for The Young Protectors web-comic, which you can find online HERE (teaser below). Adam made that custom logo up above for us, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have both of them coming down to Tampa! We also have over 50 authors of GLBTQ fiction signed up to attend, so there are lots of opportunities to find others in our fiction community there! We'll have four days of amazing content, from panels to workshops to a masquerade ball and a field trip to our official charity, the Tampa Bay Big Cat Rescue.

Interested in RainbowCon? Check out our guests, attending authors, and panel content on our website and 'like' our Facebook Page or follow us on Twitter (@RainbowCon_2015) to stay up to date with out event over the coming months. Just remember, RainbowCon is for anyone and everyone, and we'd love for you to 'Walk on the Wild Side' with us in Tampa next month! There's no registration cap, so come on down!

Eating Out: How to Stay Full at RainbowCon

Something not many people talk about is con food. A few cons have what is called a Hospitality Suite or ConSuite that is usually a room that has food available to congoers. Sometimes the food is free, sometimes it's not. Usually, said food is cheap, sugary, and carb-heavy. Think cheeseballs, wrinkled grapes, and candy. Not much to keep people going, and not very friendly to anyone who might not want to subsist solely on M&Ms and cookies for a weekend.

RainbowCon is unique. We have a Hospitality Suite that is free to all attendees. For 2015 and 2016, this suite will be located on the 9th floor of the hotel (exact room number will be provided in the programs). We don't just stock ours with candy and cookies and 2 liter soda bottles. For 2014, we provided cheese, lunch meats, cheeseballs, vegetables, fruit, pretzels, chips, dip, hummus, cookies, crackers, candy, and just about anything else we could think our attendees might like. We also provided hot coffee all day and had electric kettles for folks to use. We even provided a bevvy of drink options: water, diet soda, soda, flavored water, and juice.

These items were available from 10am until 10pm every day in 2014, and we will do the same for 2015. Attendees just need to hop the elevator up to the 9th floor, come into the Executive Suite, grab a plate, and chow down. This is one way to keep your belly and wallet full during RainbowCon.

Since RainbowCon is also located so close to Tampa International Airport, there are a slew of fast food options, too. The usual suspects are there: Boston Market, Wendy's, Burger King, McDonalds, Denny's, Cheesecake Factory, Westshore Plaza Mall's food court, etc. There are also some beautiful restaurants if you want to spend a little more money, as well as the WinnDixie Supermarket. All our hotel rooms at the hotel are provided with mini fridges, so attendees can stock up on items from the grocery store to help keep food costs down.

If attendees want to splurge, we can attest to the awesomeness of the Holiday Inn Westshore's resident restaurant. The food the hotel provides in their restaurant is outstanding. The prices are reasonable for a hotel restaurant, though if you want to keep the cost down, sit in the downstairs restaurant and don't order room service. ;)

But, your best bet for keeping your belly full and money in your pocket is to visit the Hospitality Suite throughout the day. Chat up the volunteers and organizers who will be staffing the room, relax on the sofa or in a chair, and enjoy your food!

RainbowCon is a four day QUILTBAG-centric event for anyone and everyone. If you love QUILTBAG fiction and media, then this is the place for you. You don't have identify as GLBTQ to attend! You just need to love and support the GLBTQ community. In 2015, we've expanded our programming to include not only content for writers and readers, but also anyone who loves QUILTBAG television, movies, comic books, educational, and fandom topics. We're an inclusive conference, and we want everyone to enjoy themselves. Check out our schedule to see all the fun we have in store for you!

No one knows the dark desires within him until Angel's Chief of Security, Sebastian 'Bass' Bagatelli, shatters that secret with their first intense encounter.
How will Angel win the heart of the straight firefighter that was tailor-made just for him? Will Max be able to continue denying his feelings for another man? Can Ryker and Bass get through their personal issues to take and receive what they both need from each other? Or will they each give up on a happiness that appears too good to be true?
These men's stories will unravel in a whirlwind of romance, bdsm, revelations, lots of action and very hot sex, co-starring very entertaining supporting characters.

‘Quote from Blue Moon’
 "Angel," he moaned.

"Mmmm, baby. You sound so sexy saying my name like that." Angel's voice sounded of raw desire. Max could feel Angel fighting the urge to behave himself and not go too fast with him. However, the bulge he felt pressed against his ass was unmistakable. It was foreign, and it was sexy. It was strange to Max, but also exhilarating. What the fuck am I doing? Fuck!

You Can See Me
M/M/M GAY EROTIC CONTEMPORARY
WORD COUNT - 78,200
Released February 12, 2014

Synopsis:
World renowned chef Prescott Vaughan was at the height of his career. Right before he's to leave for Paris to work alongside his idol, a horrific car accident leaves him completely blind.
His female fiancé leaves him in a state of desperation and depression.  He pines for love, companionship, and so happens to find it in the form of his very sexy neighbor.  Sexy male neighbor, Dr. Rickson 'Ric' Edwards.
Prescott's not gay - at least he never considered himself gay - until Ric saves him from a date, gone terribly wrong. The two neighbors hit it off quickly and waste no time exploring and learning each other.  Things are great until Ric begins to have his doubts about meeting Prescott's many wants.
When Ric insist he and Prescott take a breather, Pres finds himself lonely and lacking again. Enter, male escort and aspiring chef, Blair McKenzie to fill the void.
In the meantime, Ric works on his issues that prohibits him from displaying the love he knows he has for Prescott. When Ric is finally ready and returns to claim Prescott he's not sure that Pres can let go of the sexy, southern, hotness that is Blair McKenzie. After Ric has his own personal encounter with the sinfully sexy man, he can't help but become entranced and crave more as well.
Pres soon realizes that there's no need to choose between his two men, because when all three of them finally come together - grab a cold drink - the heat is going to go all the way up!
This is not your typical gay ménage romance. Everyone is not happy, skipping along, and loving life. These men are at each other’s throats. They live completely separate lives; fuss, cuss, and fight until they all realize exactly what the problem is...too damn much sexual tension.

Quote from You Can See Me:
The Texan inched in even closer, which surprised the hell out of Ric since they were practically nose-to-nose. Ric was smacked in the face with a faint soap and water fragrance that made his eyelids flutter and his own dick jerk to life. Ric’s half-lidded eyes were riveted to the Texan’s plush lips, as he leaned in and whispered directly into Ric’s open mouth. “If you don’t pull your head out of your ass and claim Prescott Vaughan like he wants, I won’t stop until I’ve fucked the sexy strawberry ten ways to Sunday and there’s not a single trace of your existence left in his mind, with or without you he needs love and I was the one there last night to lick his sweet tears when you walked away.”

Quote from Nothing Special

“Well a man like Day requires commitment, effort, someone to put in full-time work. You are more of a detached from society kind of guy aren’t you, God? I mean are you up for that type of job to keep him yours?” Johnson smirked and took a sip of his coffee.
“Yeah, I know all about that job, Johnson, because I worked the hell out of it last night.” God stepped in even closer and mock whispered. “But you know what the difference is between me and you and our jobs? I usually quit mine, you end up getting fired. But seriously. You can stop applying with Day, because the position’s been fuckin’ filled.”

Post:
I would like to thank Amethyst Daydreams for hosting me on their awesome site right before I go to the RainbowCon in Tampa, Florida to promote my current #1 bestseller on Amazon entitled ‘Nothing Special.’
I write under the name A.E. Via, but I don’t mind anyone calling me Adrienne. I am a fairly new author, but have been an avidly faithful reader of gay romance for almost nine years. It wasn’t until recently that I began to makeup characters of my own and was simmering to get their stories on paper. If I thought I was addicted to m/m before, I’m an absolute fiend now. *smiling* I can’t describe exactly what it is that attracts me so much to m/m and why I’m 99.9% sure I will never cross over genres. I just love the intensity and rawness that two men possess when they come together - to me – there is nothing that compares. I’m completely entranced when I’m reading or writing it.
I’ve only been published since November 2013 and have since had two more novels published through Amira Press Publishing – all three reaching the top five on Amazon’s bestseller charts. The welcome that I’ve received into this beautiful genre by not only the readers but by the authors as well, has been overwhelmingly heartfelt. I absolutely love when a reader contacts me through a social media or by my website and tells me how my book touched them in whatever way…or how they laughed out loud…or smiled broadly at my H.E.A., that by far has been the best part of being a new writer.
I am constantly thinking and writing new characters so please use my links below to follow me and my up and coming work.
The RainbowCon 2014, Tampa, Fl. will be my first author event - and yes – I’m very nervous. I don’t know if I’m more nervous to talk to the readers or to the authors that I’ve grown to love over so many years of reading m/m. *sighs*
I’m sure once the butterflies settle in my stomach, I’ll really enjoy myself. I will not be doing any readings or sitting on any panels – just don’t think I’ve earned that yet – but I look forward to signing my books for the readers and listening to the more established authors and how they made their journey as a writer such a successful one.

Countdown to RainbowCon Guest Post: C R Guiliano

Today I have a super cool guest post from author C. R. Guiliano.  It's nearly time for RainbowCon!

I am looking forward to RainbowCon and am excited to meet so many new people and reconnect with old friends. I will be hosting the panel, Why Won’t You Die, Fiction Tropes, on Thursday, at 2 pm. It will be an interesting discussion and I hope you will enjoy it. I will also be attending the Question & Answer event that same Thursday, between 4:45 and 5:15 in Salon B. I look forward to the interaction.
I will also be on the panel Bisexual Mythbusters: Dispelling bisexual myths on Friday at 5 pm. This is an important topic to me, if I were to put a label on myself. I’ve been on a soapbox or two regarding the subject and look forward to other’s opinions.
Saturday, I’m free!! That is my day to chat, and visit and attend the other panels in the audience. Feel free to come find me and introduce yourself! Or share a hug!
Sunday, another panel for me. I’ll be joining others to talk about Blog Tours: Love ‘em or Hate ‘em, at 11 am. As I just did my first Blog Tour for my debut book with Dreamspinner Press, I have plenty to talk about. Come on by and join in!
A little about me, I’m an author and have been published since 2010. My debut book with Dreamspinner Press was released on March 12th, 2014. It’s called, For You and features the story of Graham’s and Jeremy’s struggles to come to grips with Jeremy’s fear of coming out. Their love is deep and strong, but not enough to keep them together, until Jeremy finally realizes what he will lose forever if he doesn’t overcome his fear.
Blurb: Graham and Jeremy's first meeting sparks an explosive and passionate relationship that proves opposites attract. However, as time wears on, their differences cause a lot of strain between them.
Jeremy, a first grade teacher and softball coach, is deeply closeted and sees no way out of the darkness. Graham is out and proud and doesn’t understand Jeremy’s fear at revealing his sexuality. After four years of trying to balance the differences, Graham leaves.
Jeremy is heartbroken, knowing that the love they feel is the real thing. He knows he’s the one who needs to change, but old habits are hard to break. He'll need support from friends and family to make things right with Graham, but most of all he'll need to find strength within himself to be honest about who he really is.
The dedication is to TJ Klune and Eric Arvin and comes from my heart. They inspired the story I wrote.
Dedication: Sadly, I did not get the opportunity to meet TJ Klune and Eric Arvin at the last GayRomLit I attended, so wasn’t able to become friends with them. They don’t know me. I am but a drop in the vast ocean of love and support that surrounds these two men.
But they don’t need to know me, for I know them. They are family in a genre I call home. The struggles they are facing right now are monumental. My hope is that whatever God may be watching over them, he sees fit not to take Eric away from TJ when their lives together are just beginning. I believe Eric is a fighter, and he has someone very special to fight for.
I wish I could hug TJ, hold him, and give him my strength as he struggles to be the rock Eric needs right now. I would not be the only one. There are many caring hands and loving hearts for these two amazing men.
I am but a drop. I don’t have skills to offer—I’m just a writer. I know what helplessness feels like. I’ve been there, where TJ is now. The worry, the fear, the unknown. But we are all here for them, with our knowledge, our love, our spirit, and our help.
For You is a story about two men with a love so deep and real that they fight the worry, the fear, the unknown, the anger and the obstacles to be together. Just as TJ and Eric fight.
This dedication is for them…
TJ, Eric… this dedication is For You.
In the Grand Adventures anthology, of which I am part, is a companion story featuring Graham. It’s a
window into his past and the teacher he had a crush on while in college and how he battles with the feelings that are still with him upon coming face to face with the man that held his heart so many years ago.
I hope to see you all there! But if not, you can find me here:

Countdown to RainbowCon: Guest Post by Rory Ni Coileain

Can You Get Your Virginity Back?

You sure can. Your convention virginity, anyway. Or so it would appear, based (until recently) on my panic level as Rainbow Con approaches!
My first convention was Minicon – the Minnesota Science Fiction Association Convention – in 1979. I was in utero. Kidding – I was 16. It was definitely memorable. I met my first husband that weekend. Maybe I should have paid more attention to the date at the time (Friday the 13th). I first saw people walking around in costumes in April like it was a totally normal thing to do. And I met my first pro author, Theodore Sturgeon.
Once I’d had the gateway drug, I was primed and ready for the next step, a Star Trek convention in Kansas City to following year. It, too, was memorable. I learned what happens when you go without sleep for longer than 48 hours. (The words “Air Control”, next to a knob on your hotel room wall, become hysterically funny.) I added DeForest Kelley to my list of ST:TOS cast members whom I’ve hugged. (The only ones still missing from that list are James Doohan, whom I will now never get to meet, and William Shatner, whom I’m not quite up for paying $100 for the privilege of meeting.) I also learned how to cry on cue, when either my boyfriend (see Minicon, above) or my friend’s boyfriend accidentally kicked a Klingon security guard in the mouth during a rather vigorous costume contest presentation. (We were kidnapping Grace Lee Whitney, for the record.)
The best year for Minicon was probably 1988, when I got to talk to Diane Duane and Jane Yolen within minutes of each other. Fortunately, I managed to save the hyperventilating and passing out until I was around the corner and out of sight. Kidding, again – I carry oxygen to cons in case of emergencies like these.
And three years ago, I took my son to his first convention. He was a little younger than I’d been at my first, and he loved it – he thought he was off the leash, but what he didn’t realize was that Mom knew the whole staff and the whole staff had Mom’s cell phone number. This has been a fruitful working relationship ever since.
The point of this whole historical sketch has been to illustrate my point – I’m a hoary old convention veteran. (I was going to leave out the “hoary old”, but my son thinks it belongs there. I’m not sure he knew about the whole Mom’s-cell-phone thing until he read that over my shoulder just now.) I’ve done it all – stood in line for autographs, competed in the Masquerade, sat on panels, been the subject of unauthorized art in the art show. (Let’s just say that I appreciated the artist thinking I looked that good naked, but it still came as something of a startlement.)
Yet when it came to getting ready for my first convention as a capital-A Author, all of a sudden I was in a panic. What should I bring? How much of it should I bring? What should I wear? What am I going to do if I run out of books? What should I pick to read? What does a Lady of a Certain Age wear to a nightclub?
Boom! – virgin once more.
Fortunately, thanks to some sage advice from my friends at Rainbow Romance Writers – thank you, Damon and Kate! – and after listening to some of my fellow authors chatting about what they’re expecting, I got a little perspective back. (And it’s only slighty disappointing that I didn’t get my virginity back after all.) I was very surprised, although maybe I shouldn’t have been, to discover how many of the people I’m looking forward to meeting consider themselves introverts. Me, after *ahem* 35 years of convention-going, I have that part down pat, and I can’t wait to put faces to the names I’ve been chatting with online, some of them for years. I’m looking forward to the panels, too, both the ones I’m on and the ones I can sneak away from my table to get to. I have to admit, doing a public reading from my books is going to be a new experience (but in a good way – I used to be a nightclub singer in New York City, getting up and reading my own lovely randy Fae should be a breeze) and a book signing is going to feel weird, given that until now I’ve always been the one queuing up.
It’s not that different, really, from what I grew up with. (To the extent I’m grown up, which is debatable.) Fun panels, dressing up, late night pizza in the con suite, passionate conversations about books. And great people. People who speak my language. This is going to be fun – see you all in Tampa! (And if anyone knows what filksinging is, and feels like doing some, I’ll bet we can find a room…)

(By the way, if you’d like to come celebrate with me – the second novella in the Tales of the Grove, Tempted from the Oak, just released yesterday, from Ellora’s Cave! As of this writing, here’s the link I have -- http://www.ellorascave.com/tempted-from-the-oak.html And the latest will be on my Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/Soulshares !)

About Tempted from the Oak

With his blue eyes and heart-melting smile, Gavin could have been made-to-order to entice Tearlach, a lonely tree spirit. But the human has been enticed—stolen from snow-buried Minneapolis to the Scottish Highlands by Tearlach’s darag, the ancient oak tree of which he is the living spirit.

Tearlach is trapped within the darag by the terrible memory of his own death—hundreds, maybe thousands of years ago, but as recent to him as his last heartbeat. And if desire for the handsome human fails to tempt him out, spirit and oak are both doomed.

Gavin is more than willing to be Tearlach’s temptation. But Gavin has a history of his own—a hopeless dream, one impossible relationship after another. Surely a perfect lover, a sensual tree spirit living in the shadow of a holy mountain half a world away, is another unattainable dream. Can he expect Tearlach to trust his heart when he doesn’t trust it himself?

Countdown to RainbowCon Guest Post: Stephen del Mar

Today I have a super guest post from author Stephen del Mar.  Stephen has recently released his book, Dark Love.  Welcome Stephen!

So where to begin? Where do things begin? Where do you start a story? Where do you start the story of yourself? I know, a lot of questions. But writers ask questions and I’ve had the question of beginnings on my mind a lot this month, because it’s been a period of “firsts” for me. I just published my first novel, I’m preparing for my first writers Con, and now I’m doing my first guest blog post. It seems this old bear is having to learn a few new tricks.*
The beginning for the part of my story that’s relevant to this post happened back in May, 2013. After forty-some years, and a good amount of prodding from a friend or two, I finished my first short story and published it for the world to read. And an amazing thing happened; most people didn’t think it sucked. This amazed me, because I always had trouble in English classes. I have a bit of a learning disability that made writing a real, well, I think, “bitch” in the technical term. When word processing came along, and when it came to writing, I was pretty much literate, or it appeared so.
But I still wanted to tell stories. However, the storyteller’s soul can be a fragile thing, at least mine was—back in the fifth grade. I wrote my first story, The Venus Five, about a boy who finds a space ship and a boyfriend. The feedback was that my spelling sucked and boys can’t have boyfriends. Well, it was 1972, but I knew sure as hell I wanted a boyfriend; and a spaceship would have been cool, too. I still wanted to write, but it was hard. I never got the message that rough drafts could be bad, that there were people called editors who could help, and you really didn’t have to have an outline. The message I got was ‘you can’t do this’ and ‘boy doesn’t meet boy and get boy.’
I pushed the idea of writing away. Yet every now and then it became this little, irritating itch in the back of my mind that I’d bring out to scratch, but I’d get overwhelmed with frustration and put it away again. Then I met up with an old, high-school friend. She asked, “Why aren’t you writing?” I told her. Then she asked, “Why aren’t you writing?” We had a long talk about how each writer has to find their own style and method. I found out that unlike what all the “How to Write” books say, you don’t need an outline. In fact, there was a whole group of writers that go by the seat of their pants. And she offered to help. “Get the first draft done and we’ll go from there.”
That offer of help transformed me. I found my voice. Yeah, it’s a rather wacky, authorial voice, but it’s all mine and I’m not shutting up anymore. It is the idea of writers’ voices that has me excited about RainbowCon. I see it as a great chorus singing the stories that have, for so long, been hidden. Voices singing the stories of girls finding girls, of boys finding love in the arms of other boys, the stories of girls becoming boys, and so many other stories of the wonderful rainbow that is humanity. Yeah, I’m humbled and scared shitless to raise my voice in that chorus.
And what does one do at a Con anyway? I know I have about ten minutes to read something. I have no idea what that should be. I’m also on three of the panels, yeah that’s intimidating. They are Writing Diversity, Appropriation and Fetishization, and Rape: Not a Laughing Matter. If anyone has any suggestions for something profound that can be said in about six minutes on any of these, please pass it along! I’m leaning toward: 1) It’s a good thing. We need more. 2) Don’t do it. 3) Be respectful. This is a real, traumatic thing that screws people up, not just a plot device. On the lighter side, I heard there will be a pizza party. Bears like pizza.
I should probably close this by actually saying something about my writing. Well, I’m a gay man that writes stories that have gay men in them. They also have other kinds of people too, but gotta have me some gay boys in my stories. So far, I’ve published a handful of short stories, a novella, and my new novel. Most of the stories are set in the fictional town of Bennett Bay, Florida, and the surrounding area. They’re a neo-southern-gothic-gay thing and a few of them have paranormal elements. There’s a bit of vodou and witchcraft sprinkled in the stories about life in the swamp and a tourist town. My new novel, Dark Love, started out as a fun poke at the paranormal romance genre, but developed some serious parts along with the humor. I tend to throw in a bit of pop-culture references and fun to lighten the mood, when my boys get too serious. I’m having a Rafflecopter giveaway for a free copy of the book.
I want to think Megan for offering me this space to ramble on about myself and share my excitement about the upcoming RainbowCon. I’m still amazed that something like this is happening. I’m sure it will be a transforming experience to be part of the chorus singing the rainbow stories!
* “Bear” is gay slang for a chubby and furry man, which I am. We all can’t be pretty, young twinks. :)

Stephen del Mar can be found on his website, Facebook, and Twitter.  You can find his book, Dark Love, on Amazon.  Stephen has been kind enough to offer up a Kindle Copy of his book through Amazon.  Enter to win below!

Countdown to RainbowCon: Interview and Giveaway with Brenda Cothern

Today I have an interview with Brenda Cothern as part of the Countdown to RainbowCon!  Brenda is the author of so many great reads!  So, without further ado, here is the interview!

M- What is your writing process like?  What kind of environment do you find most conducive to writing?

B- My process is to get the voices out of my head as quickly as possible without permanent damage to any of us! *Grin* Actually, that is only partly true. I have dubbed my process the ‘Hemmingway Style.’ Most writers head to Starbucks, I head to one of two bars close to home that let me treat their establishment like my personal office. Two or three legal pads, several pens, cigarettes, and a pitcher of beer get me started. Yes, I did say legal pads and beer! Oh and sushi is usually part of the process there as well! Oh course, that is just the first step in getting the voices out of my head. Once I have the story on paper, I use the Dragon software to read it into Word. This serves as round one of editing before I let the software read it back to me. After that, I do any re-writing that needs to be done and after a final listen to Dragon reading the chapter; I send the chapter out to my beta team to pick apart. I don’t look at any of their feedback until the story is completely out of my head. Then, it’s usually another re-write and edit, send the final full novel to the beta team, review their feedback once last time, and onto formatting several different ways for the various sites that will distribute the book.

M-  You seem to have a definite flair for fantasy and paranormal writing, what inspired you to write in those genres?

B-  I am a huge gamer-geek! I have been playing D&D for the last 36 years and MMO’s since they were MUDS (text based, with no pretty graphics) so I am sure I have always had a pretty active imagination. Since I have started writing novels in 2010, I think all my years is setting the scene and characters for my D&D group to ‘see,’ made writing fantasy and paranormal easier. Once I got Zarkina (she has been my D&D characters since 7th grade) out onto paper, the floodgates opened!

M-  How are your characters created?  Are they based on people you've seen or met in life?  Or are they created entirely in your mind?

B- As weird as this may sound, I am not sure I would say I create my characters at all. Generally, they introduce themselves to me usually in dreams (when they do it when I am awake, it really makes me think about those meds I should probably be on! *grin*). They show me what they look like and what their story is and depending on how much they share, is what determines if there is a book or not. I can’t tell you how many characters have made themselves known to me but are just sitting in a folder now because they went silent! I just write what they show me without giving much conscious thought to it. So, I guess my mind is creating them … or I am being randomly possessed by hot guys with hot stories!

M-  Your author site shares a bit about your love of leather.  There's something so decadent about leather.  It is a very primal material with definite tactile appeal (nothing feels quite like leather under your fingers).  What is it about leather that you enjoy?

Leather naturally became part of my life because of the BDSM lifestyle. I love tactile play and leather is just one more item that offers a variety of sensations to blow the mind. But aside from the feel and smell of leather (even sweaty leather, that many do not find attractive!), leather is a mindset; a type of lifestyle in and of itself. If you see someone wearing a leather vest with patches, they are either a biker or into the lifestyle.

M- Do you have a mantra or a phrase that means a great deal to you in your life?

B- Oh yes, but it didn’t kick in until I had children of my own – Life doesn’t suck, life is what you make it – but it can apply to anyone at any age. If we are unhappy then only we can take the steps to change that and sometimes the first step is just admitting that we are unhappy.

M- What one panel at RainbowCon are you most looking forward to?

B- I don’t have one in particular since there are several that are sure to be entertaining due to the topic and the authors. I am going to try and squeeze in a few publisher geared panels since I am not incorporated and can publish others. But of the panels I am speaking on, I would say the Publishing DIY is the one I am looking forward to the most. I enjoy sharing what I have learned over the years about self-publishing. With sites like Smashwords and KDP (Amazon Kindle), it is easy for anyone to upload a word file and say “I’m published!” But in reality, it takes so much more and there are a lot of things new authors sometimes don’t even think about before they unleash their stories upon the world. I had three authors who answered my newbie questions and pointed me in the right direction when I got started so I enjoy paying it forward.

M-  What, in general, are you most excited for at RainbowCon?

B- I have to say that I am most excited about the Tampa Bay getting its first dedicated GLBT convention. The Bay area has the largest GLBT population in the state of Florida and aside from FetishCon, Florida Leather n’ Fetish Pride, and a few other fetish/leather conventions, we don’t have a GLBT specific convention, especially one that is based on literature. I am also excited about meeting my fellow authors who I have known for some time online and am a huge fan of their work.

Thanks so much Brenda for taking part in the Countdown and for being willing to answer some questions for me and my readers!  Here is Brenda's panel schedule for RainbowCon:

Marketing 101 (Thu 1pm)
Roundtable Discussion: Paranormal Romance (Fri 10am)
Behind the Curtain: An Inside Look at Publishing (Sat 4pm)
Publishing the DIY Way (Sun 11am)

Countdown to RainbowCon Guest Post by Cat Grant!

Thanks to the lovely folks at Amethyst Daydreams for asking me to drop by!

The last few months have been kind of a whirlwind. In between moving last July, attending two conventions (Authors After Dark and GayRomLit), the holidays and finishing no fewer than three new books, you could definitely say I’ve been keeping busy. Today I’m here to talk to you about LA Witt’s and my latest Navy SEAL opus, The Only One Who Matters.

It’s been a real pleasure working with Lori. I’ve become picky about who I choose to write with, but thus far our collaboration has been wonderfully productive and relatively stress-free. Our voices mesh well, and we have a great time trying to yank the rug out from under each other.

Call it crazy, but it works. In fact, I’d call it a partnership that’s brought out the best in both of us.

At Rainbow Con, we’ll be premiering not only our two Navy SEAL books, but our first self-published collaboration, Guarded – a super-hot, super-kinky rock star/bodyguard romance. And I’ll be showing off the Samhain reprint of the first book in my new mixed-martial arts series, Black Dog.

I’ve never been to Tampa before, so I’m looking forward to visiting. That’s one of the great things about going to conventions – seeing new places. I remember visiting New Orleans for the first time at the first GRL back in 2011, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots.

The schedule of panels looks really intriguing – and as it turns out, I’m moderating the one called, “Eww! I Don't Like Those Bits!: Going Beyond Your Comfort Zone in Erotic Romance.” (Think my reputation’s preceded me? LOL!) I’m looking forward to the readings, book signings and other social events as well. I love meeting readers, especially when I have brand new books to show off.

And give away! Leave a comment below to be entered to win a copy of The Only One Who Matters.
Months after a bullet ended his SEAL career, Senior Chief David Flint doesn’t know which is worse: struggling to adjust to life as a civilian, or watching his lover, Lieutenant Commander Josh Walker, leave for one deployment after another.
Missing the career he loved—and knowing all too well the danger Josh faces—doesn’t help. And as Josh walks out the door for another assignment, David can feel their relationship cracking under the strain.
With so little time between assignments, Josh has no idea how to fix things with David. One thing he’s sure of, though…if they don’t find a way to resolve the rising tension between them, there’s a storm coming they might not be able to weather. But he plans to give it his best shot—when he gets home.
Assuming he makes it home alive…

Countdown to RainbowCon Guest Post by David Berger

Welcome David!  I am so glad to have you here today to post!  Readers- make sure you comment for a chance to win one of David's books!

For over 20 years I’ve been a teacher; it’s truly my life’s passion, and I look forward to every day with my students. Now that I’ve begun publishing my novels, writing has become yet another passion of mine, and it’s allowed me to tell stories I’ve wanted to my whole life. Adding to both of those parts of my life is yet another aspect I embrace: I’m gay. Not only do I have the chance to be a role model to LGBTQ students every single day, to show them that life does indeed get better, but I also have the chance to model for the non-LGBTQ community just what it means to be a gay professional. There’s no great mystery to me, and I’ve found that it’s always been in my best interest to be a “what you see is what you get” person. Being an out teacher has afforded me a place in the school where I can do the most good for others. A few years ago, I found that something else about me has influenced those around me—my writing.

When I published my first novel, Task Force: Gaea—Finding Balance, in 2012, I suddenly became more than a teacher to my students: I was an author. All of a sudden, students I didn’t even teach or even know approached me about writing. They wanted to know if I would read their story or their novel or give them advice for publishing. On a few occasions, these young writers were in the LGBTQ community. Some approached me apprehensively, thinking I would judge the subject of their stories (since others had), but I would read their intricately woven plotlines and thoughtfully developed characters and see pieces of myself. I remembered being a young gay student (although I didn’t come out until I was 27) and seeing the validation they wanted. Some stories I read revolved around bisexual characters while others were strictly either gay or lesbian. Oftentimes, these were fringe characters, much like the authors themselves, who had a motley crew of friends. But, the one thing these characters had in common was power. Each hero or anti-hero in the story possessed tremendous charisma or even magical abilities. These heroes and heroines seemed to be extensions of the author, but with the power and ability they didn’t have in real life. I certainly remembered writing stories like that, too.

It was through this experience as a reader of young writers that inspired me to further a same sex relationship in my second novel in the Task Force: Gaea series. I didn’t want to be a writer of gay romance or erotica—those tales are left to writers who prefer those chosen genres. I write mythic fantasy, but I wanted there to be a few characters whose relationship didn’t fit the stereotype of ages past when it comes to gay characters. These stereotypes were homicidal, victims of evil characters, or perhaps they were killed off as a “red shirt” character, a wanton throwaway person. What kind of role model would I be if my gay characters fell into those categories? So, I had a plan.

In Finding Balance, I intimated that Dan, a main character, was gay without really exploring the idea, mostly because I didn’t want the story to focus on his relationship or orientation. The world in general has a myriad of people in it, and I didn’t want to be writing a gay mythic fantasy novel (not right now, anyway). When I started Memory’s Curse, the sequel, I needed a character to play a serious and important role, so I gave Dan a boyfriend, Ari. Aside from playing a crucial role in the story, Ari and Dan have a unique relationship that will set the stage for future books in the series. Having a positive, nurturing gay relationship brings another level to the book, especially since same-sex couples don’t get the respect they deserve.

In a fantasy novel, so much can happen that bridges the real world and that of make-believe. In this world I’ve created, homophobia really doesn’t exist. Because it shouldn’t. Does that make the world of my novels less plausible? That depends on whom you ask. If someone reading these books thinks that homophobia and prejudice are necessary for fictional worlds, since they’re part of human nature and relatable, then the answer is yes: this world becomes less believable. However, if someone reading these books sees a fantasy world as an opportunity to rewrite human nature, then perhaps the world has a chance to set an example.

Something else to consider when examining same-sex relationships in fantasy novels is that the gods themselves had relationships with multiple people. Zeus had Hera, as well as his many other women too many to name, but he also had Ganymede, a young man who not only was cupbearer to the gods, but was also Zeus’ lover. Apollo had Hyacinth, Artemis had Callisto, and there were many others. This entered my mind when I developed the character of Dan, since he is the son of Apollo. Through this story, I want young readers, especially those LGBTQers, to see that not all gay characters have to be ostracized, beaten, killed, or put into heinous roles.

Another area that I wanted to make sure to include in my writing was strong women, and not just superhuman. The main female characters, Sarah and Aleta, do possess magical powers, but their strength comes from within, too. I have tremendous respect for women with power, especially in this real world. I do my best to stop misogyny with students (some teenage boys can be the worst!) as well as with other people I know who just don’t understand that women and men should be playing at equal levels. Sarah Jacobs grew up with three parents: her dad and his partner, and her mom. I actually had someone ask me why I don’t really have traditional families in my work, but that all depends on how you define traditional. Whose traditions? Aleta Halston’s mother and grandmother raised her. Just because her father doesn’t make a presence in the books doesn’t mean he won’t eventually show up or that he didn’t exist. The matriarchy of the Halston family provides the foundation of Aleta’s power, that and a silver javelin that lets her call upon Zeus’ lightning. Another woman who deserves her props is Alkinoë, queen of Arkadeia and Apollo’s wife. Having moved from ancient Arkadeia into the modern world, she still has the strength to deal with the issues put before her by her husband (read Memory’s Curse to find out) as well as those of her offspring. A large part of the inspiration for women like these came from two sources: my own mother who provided me with the foundation on which I built my life, and my favorite comic book heroine, Wonder Woman. One real, one fictional, yet both provided me with role models. I am who I am today because of them both.

I’d consider myself a complex person, I suppose, having dealt with more than my share of obstacles growing up, but being an educator, and a gay one at that, has afforded me the opportunity to be more for others. My life (not just a job) is to teach, to prepare others for the world, and to show them that, with enough motivation and willingness to take risks, life can be what you want, or more.

Attending RainbowCon will be something of a first—I’ve never been the guest of a convention before. I’m thrilled to be a part of this inaugural event, and particularly to be on the Writing Diversity panel. As the descriptions states, “It's difficult to find diversity in race, religion, ability, and occupation in a lot of QUILTBAG fiction.” I believe I have much to say on this subject as I have incorporated a variety of elements that will be discussed in this forum in my novels. Fantasy pretty much invites diversity, since a writer not only has humans to factor in, but also any number of creatures, gods, and otherworldly beings. This panel will truly be one I will remember.

Task Force: Gaea—Finding Balance: During the age of Olympos, when a vengeful goddess shatters the Sacred Scales, both immortals and humans alike suffer. Apollo suffers from Zeus’ wrath and is sentenced to live as mortal. The Fates direct his course, and he must make difficult, yet vital, choices. Millennia pass, and Dan, Aleta, Brandon, and Sarah—four reluctant modern-day heroes gifted by ancient civilizations born of the gods—bound by prophecy, have to choose whether or not to save their world when it could mean they never existed. They must battle against incomprehensible forces from the Underworld and repair the Sacred Scales, destroyed long ago. With Order and Chaos unhinged, and the Olympian gods struggling to exist, these four become part of the United Nations Task Force, protecting an endangered world, by becoming the only group who can fight against metaphysical threats to the Earth: Task Force: Gaea. Can mortals succeed where gods cannot go?

Excerpt:

The third man remained on his mount, but kept his distance from the other two. Perhaps he would be a voice of reason for them, or maybe he would coax them into frenzy. Regardless, Delos’s eyes never left him. This first day on Gaea would end in death; only the Fates would know if it were his death, or Ios, or these marauders. On the other hand, would it be salvation to die and not endure an unknown period as a human? Something intrigued the man on horseback. While Delos had been watching Polos and Creon, the man had been watching Delos, especially his armband. With subtle gestures, he nudged the horse forward, hoping to get a better look. When he translated the symbols, his face paled.
“Brethren! Cease this at once! The fair-haired one is...”
Fearing the priest would give away his identity, Delos raised the bow and sent an arrow clear through the man’s throat. His hands clutching his neck, the man fell off his horse, crimson life oozing into the earth. Creon charged at Delos, but another arrow found its mark in his chest. Delos brought the bow up to his cheek, nocked with another arrow.
“You have now twice insulted the sea god, first in his own shrine, and now by assaulting an innocent man near the sea. Unless you wish to see the Netherworld, turn and go,” Delos instructed Polos. Delos admired Ios’ courage in this.
The Galateian dropped his weapon, started to turn, but swung around. The arrow made a hollow thud as it penetrated Polos’ head, killing him instantly. A hidden dagger fell from his hand. Delos had not been on Gaea more than an hour and already he had killed three mortals. Surely, the Moirae had a sense of humor, or of the macabre.Ios stared at his companion, finally managing to speak. “Thank you, friend. I felt sure I would see Hades this day.”
Delos lifted the cart back to its wheels and salvaged some of the undamaged burlap bags. Wolves or wild dogs would eventually consume the dead men. No doubt, Hermes had taken their souls. Gaea would claim what remained. Ios and Delos didn’t speak until they arrived at a pennant denoting the boundary of Trapæzos.

Task Force: Gaea—Memory’s Curse: For Aegis, Zodiak, Aether, and Talon, operatives in the United Nations Task Force: Gaea, life should have returned, but paranoia plagues this new time line, and tight-fisted governments mandate control through a pervasive military presence, DNA scans, and surveillance cameras. A new mission for Task Force: Gaea emerges when an ancient cloudlike evil referred to in prophecy only as The Nebulous One emerges from Tartaros, with the intention of devouring the Olympeian gods. But, before she can find them, all of the gods but Apollo have disappeared. Will he and Task Force: Gaea find and vanquish this primordial goddess without falling prey to her power before she finds the gods? Aegis and his teammates, perhaps as a side effect of their encounters with The Nebulous One, have to battle personal demons in the form of potent memories that could jeopardize their mission’s success, seemingly insurmountable obstacles that could indeed mean the end of their team. Starting in antiquity and moving to the modern day, this epic battle between good and evil leaves both immortal and mortal alike wondering whether memory can be a blessing… or a curse.

Excerpt:

“What the hell is that?” Aether looked down into the quarry. “I think we’re in trouble, guys.” Her voiced quivered a bit.

Zodiak caught a glimpse of it over her shoulder. “Damn. I think that’s the largest thing we’ve gone up against. Aegis?”

“I see it,” he said, assessing it from the other side of the copter. “You’re right, Zodiak. Let’s get on the ground. And that’s Ladon, so yeah, I’d say we’re in trouble.”

Ladon—son of Ekhidna, mother of all monsters, and Typhon, another monstrous dragon but with one hundred heads—guarded the golden apples of the Hesperides, sacred to Hera. What could have brought this beast from its post was a mystery, but nonetheless he towered up over the granite canyon’s walls. Aether glided to the ground on the air currents, while Aegis and Zodiak just jumped to the ground when the copter was close enough. Talon returned from her aerial reconnaissance without much to tell.

“So, no people. I don't think there were any to begin with. It’s just us, and that.”

“What’s the plan?” Zodiak realized it was more rhetorical. He knew the answer: either transport it somewhere, or kill it. “A head-grower, right, Aegis?”

A head-grower was a dragon that grew two heads when one was cut off, like a hydra. Only one head of the eight would be impervious to weapons; that head would be a challenge.

Aegis nodded. “This doesn’t make sense. Why would Ladon be here of all places? No human prey, either.”

“Let’s speculate later. You ready, guys?” Zodiak needed no answer.

They moved closer, hearing the roaring heads below, not noticing the dark cloud looming above them, like a thunderhead before a storm. Ladon’s sneer vibrated the air around him. Taking a running jump, Aegis landed on the back of one of the heads, grabbed onto a green scale, and positioned Thyroros. Another head opened its mouth, spewing fire, but Aegis threw his manacle up, and the impact shield kept him from being incinerated. Unfortunately, he let go, bounced off Ladon’s back, and landed on the floor of the quarry. He didn’t have time to get his bearings when the dragon’s tail swept him into the granite wall, cracking the stone, chips flying everywhere. Aegis sheathed his sword, ran toward a massive leg, leaped up and did a somersault, landing on Ladon’s back. Smooth scales made it almost impossible to get a strong foothold, but Aegis balanced his way to the base of the eight necks, clenched his hands together, swinging them down hard. Most of the heads turned, some spewing acid while others spat fire.Drops of acid landed close enough to eat away some of the leather on Aegis’ black boots. He looked up and saw Talon flying in an attack formation, her javelin at the ready. Even if he could get his sword out, he could only get one, maybe two, necks severed before Ladon’s other heads would attack. He would have to time his sword strikes just right and signal Talon. Withdrawing Thyroros once more, spinning it over his hand, he slashed into the six-foot wide scaly neck. Earthsteel went smoothly through dragon flesh and bone, and as soon as the head and neck fell to the ground, he signaled above and a meandering bolt of lightning came down and cauterized the wound before it could grow two more heads. One down, seven to go. Roaring loud enough to shake free some of the granite blocks from the side of the quarry, Ladon turned three of his heads toward Aegis, ready to shower him with both acid and fire. The son of Apollo knew he couldn’t make another strike without giving the dragon a tactical advantage, so he leaped to the ground to find a better position. The cloud that had hovered above them descended slowly, but went unnoticed.

Countdown to RainbowCon: Guest Post from Caethes Faron

Today I have a guest post from author Caethes Faron as part of the Countdown to RainbowCon.  Welcome Caethes!

Thanks so much for having me! This is actually my first guest post EVER which is fitting because it’s for a countdown to my first ever con! I’m super excited to go to Rainbowcon and meet so many other authors and readers of LGBT fiction. Writing is a pretty solitary endeavor: just you, a computer, dogs that have impeccable timing when it comes to needing attention right now, this very instant, and the voices in your head. Today, I’m going to talk about those pesky voices who won’t shut-up until they’re put down on the page, some of them even demanding multiple books.

For me, each book starts with a character. Some authors may be able to construct their characters and stories to order. I am not so lucky. I can put wishes out into the universe, but they are seldom granted, and usually in different ways than I would have originally thought. For my debut novel, Measure of Devotion, I can still remember the exact place I was standing when Kale first introduced himself to me. I was walking to my closet and BAM, I saw as clear as day the very last scene of what would become Measure of Devotion. Here was a man who had been through a lot. I saw the love in his eyes, the anguish at what he had just been through, and I needed to know how he had gotten there. It was like being a little kid at story time listening to his story unfold. I knew I had to write it.

The sequel to Measure of Devotion worked much the same way, except this time Kale’s lover, Jason, showed up looking depressed at a bar. “What happened?” I practically yelled at him. "More importantly, how are you going to fix it?” So he told me, and Measure of Strength was born.

My upcoming book, Haunting Echoes, has a pretty mean, kick-ass vampire from the 1600s as the heroine. She loves hunting and killing humans. Same deal, she came to me all, “Humans are annoying, but fun to eat.” She seemed interesting, so I asked her if she had a story to tell. Turns out it was a biggie. You see, her fiancé was accidentally her first kill. One of the risks of being a vampire. But she got pretty caught up in the hunt, following her bloodlust from one end of Europe to the other until the night she sees her reincarnated fiancé in a tavern. That’s when things started to get a little dicey. She’s another one of those characters who wasn’t satisfied with just one book. Oh, no. I’ve got the second book of her story almost done and her fiancé is clamoring for his turn at the mic.

When I actually sit down to write, the first thing I do is let the character tell their story. I just type. I get their voice, their biased view of the events they're sharing, and an idea of what exactly the story is I’m going to be telling. Then I do the same for the other MC. Once that’s done, I’m able to craft the story from what each character has told me.

I’ve got characters waiting not so patiently to get their turn at the page. Then I have other characters who are just hanging out, a little shy, waiting until the time is right to tell me their stories. My job is to be quiet and listen. I’ve learned the hard way what happens when I don’t listen. Rewrites. Lots and lots of painful rewrites!

My debut novel, Measure of Devotion, is currently free on Amazon, Kobo, and Apple, so if a bittersweet love story between a slave and his master sounds like you’re thing, go give it a try. For information on my soon to be released novel, Haunting Echoes, you can check out my site at http://caethesfaron.com/haunting-echoes.

Countdown To RainbowCon Guest Post by Vicktor Alexander

Today I have a guest post from author Vicktor Alexander as part of the Countdown to RainbowCon!

Follow the Rainbow Brick Road All the Way to RainbowCon

It is March 2014 and I am practically vibrating with excitement over RainbowCon. In a little over a month, authors and readers of LGBTQI romance and fiction will descend upon central Florida and laugh, play, share, talk, assemble and get up to all manner of mayhem and foolishness.
I’m excited about this for a number of reasons. I was unable to attend GRL last year and because of internet issues and confusion over the waiting list (“How do I get on the waiting list?”) I’m unable to attend GRL this year as well, but RainbowCon affords me the opportunity to still mingle with not only the readers, whom I love, but my fellow authors whom I enjoy (some of whom I love, some of whom I adore, some of whom I fanboy over).
And the best thing about RainbowCon?
It’s right in my backyard!
Tampa is 30 minutes away from Lakeland, which is where I currently live, and that makes things EXTREMELY cheaper for me.
Tampa is also my former stomping grounds (I was once a freshman at the University of South Florida. Okay, it was only a semester, but still… and I LIVED in Tampa! Temple Terrace at one point and Riverview at another point which is just outside of Brandon) so it will be fun to be somewhere with my author and reader friends and be able to tell them that, yes, there is a Burger King, McDonald’s, and a Wendy’s right down the street from the hotel and yes, it is WAY cheaper than what you pay up north and yes, there IS a Starbuck’s.
I look forward to being able to go to Ybor with them all and relive the days when my friends and I went clubbing when I was too young to actually get into the club (I was 17 years old for the first few months of my freshman year of college while all of my friends were 18. They snuck me in because I looked so mature for my age) and then when I was old enough but felt TOO old to be in the club (“what do you MEAN it’s midnight?! It’s time to go home and go to bed! I don’t want to go to a club, NOW! Are you CRAZY?!”)
But even more than that I look forward to interacting with the readers, because that’s what makes these conventions all worth it. More than the events, the panels, the Q&A’s, the readings, the book signings, and everything else, it’s talking to the readers, meeting the readers, answering their questions (“When’s the next Tate Pack book coming out?” “When’s Willie’s Earl coming out?” “When are you going to write the full-length story about Braxton and Hamilton?” “When is Buck and Percy’s story coming out?” “Why aren’t you writing right now?” “I loved The Beginning, so when’s book two coming out? It’s about Benjamin right?” “Oh my god! I LOVE Raising Shawna! The next book is about Uriah right? And that’s coming out when?” “Are you done with Daddy’s Boy yet?”), laughing with them, talking about my favorite authors (“Yes, I do stalk Stormy Glenn but I think she likes it.” “Yeah I know Gabrielle Evans, but I still stalk her too.” “Yeah, me and Jana Downs text all the time but doesn’t mean I’m not still a HUGE fanboy.”) and hearing about what they liked, what they disliked, what they want to see more of, what they want to see less of, and even hearing about their families.
Because that’s what these conventions are about. The readers. They’re not about me, Vicktor Alexander, making a name for myself. It’s not about “Look at me! I’m an author!” It’s about me giving back to my readers, letting them see me, talk to me, ask questions. It’s about encouraging budding authors, or helping aspiring ones. It’s about giving back to a community of people that has given so much to me.
And if I get to have fun and get a lapdance or three while I do that? Well… that’s just the icing on the cake.

What Panel/Event Are You Most Looking Forward To?
I think I am most looking forward to the “Fifty Shades of WTF” panel. Not just because I’m on it, but because of what the panel stands for, who else is on the panel with me and the fact that it gives us the opportunity to really dispel some myths, ease some worries and really squash some misconceptions perpetuated by “the book that shall not be named.” LOL. It’s a subject (BDSM) that’s very near and dear to my heart, one that I very much look forward to being able to discuss openly and freely. I look forward to answering questions about it and talking about it with the readers and other authors as well.

I’m also very excited because my book, The Beginning, Sons of Adam: 1, released just in time for RainbowCon so I get to brag about that! And because it will be out on paperback at the Con, I am giving away a free ebook copy to one lucky person who comments on this post!

Here is the blurb/excerpt and buy-links for the book:

Ronny Parker has always been aware that there was more to life outside of his Harlem apartment. When he goes to work one morning at Starbucks, he finds himself coming face to face with a reality that he was not prepared for. He finds himself the eyewitness to a fight between two shifters, a wolf and a lion, one of which bites Ronny and calls him “mate.” When Ronny wakes up the next morning he finds himself thrust into a world neither his family, nor his teachers ever taught him about and he does the only thing he can do. He starts to investigate.
Cole Tronk has been taught from an early age that he is never to mate a human, never reveal his true nature to a human and that he cannot be gay. But when he gets into a fight with his oldest friend outside of a Starbucks and finds himself smelling the most intoxicating scent ever, he throws all of those rules out of the window. Before long, Cole and his mate, Ronny are on the run from the governing body of the paranormals, humans who have now discovered that paranormals, magicks and supernaturals exist, and someone from Ronny’s past who is determined to kill them both.
Along the way, Cole and Ronny meet up with a group of paranormals, magicks, and supernaturals who are also gay, and who are researching the true history of the world and creation. What they find will not only change their lives, but the entire world and the future. Will Ronny and Cole’s mating survive all of these obstacles and when a millennias old lie comes back to bite them in the ass, will Ronny and Cole be able to deal with the consequences?

Excerpt:

Noticing that the bus was approaching the store where he worked, Ronny reached up a hand and pulled down on the string to signal for the bus to stop. He winced at the loud noise that sounded and rose from his seat. Walking down the stairs, he stopped at the side door and waited for the bus to come to a stop. Finally able to step off, Ronny squared his shoulders and stepped out of the open doors onto the sidewalk. He smiled at the two women leaving the store and walked around the side to the employee entrance. He stopped shortly after. The sound of flesh slapping against flesh, grunts, and curses reached his ears and it didn’t sound as if there were people having sex. It sounded like a fight. Groaning, Ronny raced forward. He was only five feet and eleven inches tall, built like a swimmer to boot, but he’d found that being black would sometimes chase away troublemakers, regardless of his slim build. Coming to a stop, Ronny’s mouth dropped open. His coworker, Benjamin, was fighting another man, but that wasn’t what shocked Ronny. It was the fact that Benjamin’s hands looked like wolf paws and the man he was fighting had hands like a lion. Ronny gasped when both men shifted into animals, backing up until he bumped into the wall behind him. His gasp alerted them to his presence and he watched with wide eyes as they approached him slowly.
“Oh, fuck, oh, fuck, oh, fuck,” Ronny chanted. “This is how I’m going to die.”
The lion shifted then, back into the form of a man. The lion man walked over towards Ronny and sniffed the air around him. Ronny trembled and began praying internally. This was not how he wanted to die. Not how he planned to be remembered. Killed by a freaky lion shifter person.
“Mmmm,” the lion man hummed. “Mate.”
Ronny’s eyes widened. He’d read enough romance novels to know what that word meant and he also knew that there was never a black man or woman involved in something like that. Mates seemed to be only for other races, so there was no way that he could be somebody’s mate.
“M-mate?” he stammered. “No. You’ve got it all wrong.”
The lion man shook his head. “There is no mistake. You are my mate. I am your destiny. My name is Cole Tronk,” the lion said.
Ronny stared at him in amazement. Cole stood at least six-foot-four and he was all thick muscles, skin that was a beautiful golden tan color, brown hair with gold highlights, and eyes so dark brown they almost looked black. As Ronny’s gaze traveled over the expanse of skin, he felt his own skin grow tight and hot as he took in Cole’s naked form and the thick, long cock hanging between his thighs. Ronny’s body responded to the man’s nudity, his own dick growing firm behind his zipper and his anus clenching as if preparing itself to be speared by Cole’s thick member. Cole’s jaw was square and firm, his lips full, and his nose slim, which twitched as Cole inhaled deeply. He grinned at Ronny and stepped closer.
“I can smell your lust for me, mate.” Cole’s voice was deep and smooth like whiskey. The sound of it flowed over Ronny’s body, tightening it further and making him moan softly.
“I-I’m not your m-mate,” Ronny stammered. “I’m black and human.”
Cole let out a bark of laughter before leaning forward to sniff at the column of Ronny’s neck. He let out a low growl before licking the skin there. Ronny shivered so hard he thought he would fly apart as the front of his pants grew wet with his pre-cum.
“Oh, fuck,” he whispered and clenched his fists against the wall.
Something inside of him wanted to reach out to Cole. He wanted to bring the other man against his body, preferably with both of them naked. He wanted to feel Cole thrusting inside of him. He ached deep inside for… something. He didn’t know what, but he knew that it was somehow the most important thing ever. He noticed that his breath and Cole’s seemed to be in sync and he watched, amazed that whenever he breathed out, Cole inhaled and vice versa. It was as if they were each other’s air.
Riiight, he mentally scoffed. I am not some fucking twink in a romance novel.
Giving himself a mental shake, Ronny raised his hands to push Cole away, who seemed to have gotten so much closer to him in the few seconds it took for Ronny to think. His hands landed on firm pecs and, though he’d told himself that he was pushing the other man away, he found himself squeezing the flesh instead, his palms grazed by the puckered nipples on Cole’s chest.
“Shit,” Cole growled.
It was Ronny’s only warning before sharp pain pierced the join of his neck and left shoulder as Cole, the lion man, buried his fangs into Ronny’s skin. Ronny let out a loud yell, that quickly turned into a moan as the pain became pleasure. Sweet, overwhelming, delicious pleasure. The kind that had him humping Cole’s thigh where it rested between his own legs. It was a pleasure so amazing that it took him a moment to realize that not only had he just cum in his work pants, effectively ruining them, but that he’d just let some fucking lion man bite him.
He told himself that he was going to push Cole away, but his hands seemed to not be listening to him and instead they rose to wrap around Cole’s neck as the other man groaned and drank Ronny’s blood. After a moment, when Ronny was starting to feel just slightly weak, Cole let go of his neck and licked the wounds. He kissed the skin there and began to purr. At first, it freaked Ronny out, but, after a moment, he found himself more turned on by the purring than he’d been by the bite to his neck.
The bite to his—hold the hell on!
Ronny shoved Cole away from him. Jabbing a finger into Cole’s chest, he glared and let out his own growl. “You fucking bit me, you psycho!”
Cole smirked. “You loved it,” he pointed out, crossing his massive arms across his broad chest.
