A Case of Possession ( A Charm of Magpies #2) by K. J. Charles

Today I have a review for a wonderful ebook that I have been chomping at the bit to read.  I loved The Magpie Lord (the first book in the series) and I bought this second book almost as soon as it came out.  Here's the cover and blurb:

I love the way that this series is written!  So lovely!  I really am enjoying this series.  Lord Crane is absolutely adorable in this book when he comes to realize how he truly feels for Stephen.  I loved seeing him work it all out in his mind.  I also appreciated the friendship between Crane and Merrick that allowed Merrick to tell the Earl what he did not want to hear but NEEDED to hear.  It was a great friendship moment.  Leo Hart was also an interesting character to watch interact with Lord Crane.  She has a lot of depth and has lived a hard life.  She makes some tough choices in this book.  I thought that the scenes between Stephen and his partner were pretty great as well.  They truly love one another and are friends if not really family.  All in all, this book was a lovely sequel to Magpie Lord and I thought it really built the world.  I wonder what else K. J. Charles has in store for us!

The Magpie Lord was suggested recently as a life changing read by a fellow blogger.  This book has so many great things going on in it that I have to agree.  This is what M/M fiction should be.

This book is amazing. I loved the historical setting but the overlay of magic. Magic and the paranormal gives the story an extra dimension.  Stephen is easily my favorite character.  I loved how he manages to stand his ground with Lord Crane.  He has reason to hate the man's family and thus the man himself but Stephen learns enough about the new Lord Crane to make his thoughts bend in a different direction.  I loved seeing Stephen use his magic as well.  It was so well done that I felt like I was watching it happen instead of reading about it.  Lord Crane was interesting as well.  He has turned out so differently from his father and brother but few people believe it.  His one friend is so loyal that you know that Lord Crane must be a decent man but we only get the truth of it in bits and pieces.  The mystery of this story is not at all trite or predictable- which is nice in a mystery.  All in all, this book was so well done that I am chomping at the bit for the next one in the series.
