The Girl in the Clockwork Collar (Steampunk Chronicles #2) by Kady Cross

During BEA, Kady Cross signed hardcovers of her newest YA book from Harlequin Teen- The Girl in the Clockwork Collar.  This is the second book in the Steampunk Chronicles series.  The first book, The Girl in the Steel Corset, came out last summer and was one of my Best I've Read of 2011.  I read this one on the train trip to New York for BEA with NetGalley.  What a great book!  Here's the Goodreads blurb:

In New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling - or dangerous. Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him...for the life of the girl Jasper loves. One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. And tightens.
I love that this book takes the action to America.  Britain is the norm in most of the steampunk that I've read so I think it's refreshing to see a steampunk story carry over into America.  We get to learn lots more about Jasper and his past but we don't miss out on anything that Finley and Griffin are up to.  I really enjoyed this book.  Even though the focus is on Jasper and his situation, the reader can watch the changes occurring in Finley and Griffin's friendship.  There is still so much that they have to work through but they learn some really great things about how they feel which is a good start.  This book has lots of danger and action.  It even has some great inventions and a famous inventor.  There's really nothing that I disliked about this book. Great, strong characters.  An interesting world.  A gripping story of friendship and trust.  I really hope that you'll give this book and this series a chance.

You can find out more about Kady Cross on her website.  You can find a wealth of cool information there.  You can also click here to find The Girl in the Clockwork Collar on Goodreads.  You can click here to find the Steampunk Chronicles on Goodreads.  The Girl in the Clockwork Collar earns 5 Fairies for being an excellent sequel full of steampunk shenanigans.
