Newly married Jessica Packwood is having a hard enough time feeling regal with her husband, Lucius, at her side. But when evidence in the murder of a powerful elder points to Lucius, sending him into solitary confinement, Jessica is suddenly on her own. Determined to clear her husband’s name, Jessica launches into a full-scale investigation, but hallucinations and nightmares of betrayal keep getting in her way. Jessica knows that with no blood to drink, Lucius’s time is running out. Can she figure out who the real killer is—and whom she can trust—before it’s too late?This was an even better read than the first book. Jessica really comes into her own in this story. The reader also gets to know other characters much better than they did in Dating. The murder mystery that Jessica had to solve is interesting and engaging. I read the entirety of this one in a day because I just had to see how it would end. I really like that Jessica and Mindy really grew into stronger women over the course of the book. They tried their best and become all the better for it. Raniero was a pleasure to read about as well. His character is so complex and interesting. I really liked reading about how and why he ended up a beach bum. Lucius also became a more engaging character in this book as we got to see more about his childhood, his reasons for wanting to rule and how he interacts with Jessica. All in all, this was a lovely read.
