His Roommate's Pleasure by Lana McGregor

I recently received a copy of His Roommate's Pleasure fro Carina Press through NetGalley.  I was so surprised by this story!  SO GOOD!  Here is the cover and the blurb:

It started with an accidental click…but where will it end?

Desperate to turn in a paper, Adam borrows his roommate's computer and mistakenly opens a folder that contains Josh's collection of porn. Adam had no idea that his jock roommate was gay—and into leashes, paddles and domination. And Adam, an inexperienced virgin who's only ever kissed one guy, is surprised to find himself curious about submitting…

Josh can't believe that his roommate discovered his spank bank—and he can't believe that Adam is so turned on by the thought of giving up control to someone. Taking a chance, he offers to look through the photos with Adam…and maybe try acting some of them out.

Night after night, the boys delve into their darkest fantasies of domination and submission. And as lust and experimentation grow into the promise of something deeper, Adam must decide if he's brave enough to tell Josh how he feels.
This book surprised me.  I was worried that it would be all about control and humiliation and all that 50 Shades crap.  It wasn't.  Josh and Adam come into it from a place of newness and they make their own way.  They learn what works for them and what doesn't and really, that is the foundation of any relationship.  I loved that Josh NEVER spoke to Adam with condescension or derision.  Even if the words Josh used SHOULD have been hurtful, they were spoken in a loving way.  I greatly appreciated that.  Dominating is not supposed to be all about taking what you want.  It is about getting something that you need in exchange for giving someone else what they need.  It can be cold and clinical but between Josh and Adam, it came from a place of love and respect and that was lovely to watch.  I also loved that Josh was man enough to tell his jock friends that if they couldn't respect Adam, then they couldn't respect him.  He stood up for Adam and for himself.  He took a chance on the person he loved over the friends he thought he knew.  If you think that you may not be into D/S then I suggest this book as an example of that dynamic in a relationship that just works.  My only concern was that I wish that there had been more aftercare shown in the scenes that played out.  It sounded like Adam might not have wanted too much aftercare but I still would have liked to have seen it because it is an important part of any physical relationship but especially one with D/S dynamics.

You can click here to find His Roommate's Pleasure on Goodreads.  It can also be found on Amazon.  Lana McGregor can be found on her blog and on Twitter.  I give this book 4 Fairies for a beautifully positive portrayal of a dominant and submissive relationship.
