Once Burned ( Night Prince #1) by Jeaniene Frost

I love Jeaniene Frost's Cat and Bones books (the Night Huntress Series) is one of my favorites.  The two off shoot books from that series (one for Mencheres and one for Spade) are great too.  So when she announced a while back that she was going to be doing a series for Vlad I was super excited.  Our local library recently got the first two books so I could catch up on this new series.  Here's the cover and the Goodreads blurb:

She's a mortal with dark powers...

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...

He's the Prince of Night...

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.
This book really delivered on all of the things that I've come to expect from Jeaniene Frost.  Hot, complicated vampire- check.  Kick butt lady love- check.  Great supporting characters- check.  Well built world- check.  I really loved Frankie/Leila.  She is so smart, strong, honorable and brave.  Her life hasn't been easy but she's come out of it better off for it.  There is not only romance but tons of action.  In this book, the romance is secondary to the action which is a hallmark of Jeaniene Frost's books.  We also see a cameo from Mencheres, Kira, Cat and Bones.  That scene is lovely.  Bones is just so much fun!  This book read really quickly for me, I think, because of the fast paced action.  All in all, this book was everything I expected and more.

You can learn more about Jeaniene and the Night Huntress world that she has created on her website.  She's also on Goodreads and on Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal and MySpace.  She's a busy woman!  Click here to add Once Burned to your Goodreads.  I give Once Burned 4 fairies for a great start to a new series from a spectacular author.
