Oliver and Desiree are introduced to the writings of a mysterious blogger, Commodore Chaos, when they return to Provex City to indulge in what the sublime city has to offer. The blogger claims the Lornes are collecting people venturing between the higher planes of awareness and locking them away in a mythical asylum. But are these legitimate concerns for inter-plane travelers or just the ramblings of an anonymous conspiracy blogger?

Oliver looks to Provex City as his only connection to his father while Desiree looks to the city as an escape from the torment of losing her best friend—again. Provex City is a wonder of beautiful treasures, entrancing them to continue returning. But behind the beauty, wolves have continued hunting Oliver, a boy who is still unaware of his importance in the rebellion.

Oliver’s belief is waning. Desiree will not always be by his side. Mr. Gordon will not always come to his aid. Oliver finds himself alone, forced to confront his biggest fears, fight his inner demons, and face the very cold reality that no one is coming to save him.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the first.  I found that Anna and Desiree really grated on my nerves in this sequel.  Desiree was particularly noxious.  She is just so selfish.  Everything is about her feelings and desires.  She makes bad choices and then blames the results on those around her.  She pushes Oliver into things that he is uncomfortable with and then she blames him for the poor result of their actions.  She's just all around pretty horrible.  I could not stand her.  It also felt like Oliver lost his way in this book.  I don't know if it was really that Desiree was leading him or that he was going that way of his own accord but he is taking risks that he really shouldn't.  Everything is both coming together and falling apart.  The second half of this book is some of Mr. Pierce's best writing.  He makes the fear, pain and hysteria of being in a mental institution come alive for the reader.  I found it very vibrant and realistic.  You can feel Oliver's despair and his pain.  You feel the panic of his situation.  The question becomes whether or not Oliver can overcome the pain and constraints place on his to free Desiree and himself.  But will their freedom come with a price?  An all around excellent read but trigger warnings should be observed.

I believe that it must be noted that there are mentions of possible non-consensual sexual activities, abuse of alcohol by minors, mentions of cutting/self harm, graphic images of self harm, suicide and graphic scenes of a hospital for the criminally insane so if any of those things are triggering for you, know that going in.  You can click here to find the Lorne Vault Series on Goodreads.  You can also find my review for Provex City, Book 1 in the series here.  I give SUSY Asylum 3 Fairies for being a good second book that held it's own but was less satisfying than the first book.  I still am very much wanting to see where Mr. Pierce takes us next!
