Guest Post from Author PK Hrezo:

My Top Ten Fictional Heroines

10. Lara Croft from Tomb-raider video games and movies. Why? She just kicks butt as well as any guy, and I love her Indiana Jones spirit.
9. Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs. Because she’s tough, but realistic. Admits her fears and conquers them. Her sense of duty make her the kind of person who gets the job done—the kind of person I’d want in charge.
8. Lady Arwen of Rivendell. She’s wise, kind, beautiful, and no better match for the roguish and skilled Aragorn. One of my fave parts from the LOTR films is when she’s riding Frodo to safety from the wraiths and taunts them at the river where she whispers an enchantment and brings on raging horses from the waters.
7. Katniss Everdeen. She’s a do-it-yourself kinda girl that doesn’t care about being pretty, which makes her all the more attractive. She has more important things to worry about, like staying alive, and I wouldn’t want to be lost in the woods with any other girl.
6. Hermione Granger. I loved watching this character grow from the bushy- haired know-it-all to the elegant, but skilled right-hand-man to Harry Potter. What an amazing role model for young readers. Big props to JK Rowling for creating her.
5. Elizabeth Bennett. Okay so she doesn’t fight evil or conjure spells, but her kind of heroism is in honoring her gender by proving women are more than pretty little things who knit and read quietly. Her wit and social graces are equally as impressive as any warrior-woman’s combat skills would be.
4. Scarlet O’Hara, because even though she’s spoiled and double-crossing, she’s equally strong and ambitious, and always comes out on top, even if it’s only out of sheer stubbornness. Maybe she’s not the best friend to have, but she’s as shrewd as any businessman when it comes to getting the job done.
3. Melanie Hamilton. I can’t mention Scarlet without also mentioning Melanie, because the two complement each other so well. Melanie plays the part of weak and helpless, but really, she’s as smart as Scarlet, if not smarter, and the only one who knows how to handle her. Melanie has such a good heart, and sees through Scarlet’s tough exterior. That, is true valor—seeing others faults and accepting them for who they are anyway.
2. Miss Piggy. Ah, yes, she’ll always be my hero. She tells it like it is, lets out her frustration when she needs to, all while remaining perfectly fashionable every step of the way.
1. Mathilda Wormwood. Because despite her wretched parents and unfortunate life, Mathilda breaks the cycle and stays true to herself and her impeccable mental abilities. I’m guessing the Mathilda stories helped inspired Harry Potter because there are so many subtle similarities.

How about you? Who are some of your favorite heroines?

It's funny, I had another author list Miss Piggy as well! What a funny coincidence! I think these are perfect choices! Katniss would definitely be at the top of my list. I don't know how she survived all she went through.
Thanks so much for hosting a tour stop!
