Crucible of Fate (Change of Heart #4) by Mary Calmes

I was so excited to see that Mary Calmes had written a fourth book in the Change of Heart series.  It doesn't directly follow the life of Jin Church but instead she has turned her attention to Domin Thorne.  Here is the cover and the Goodreads blurb:

In the secret city of Sobek, Domin Thorne is making his way as the newly chosen semel-aten, the leader of the werepanther world. He aspires to make sweeping changes—he’s set goals for himself and the people he chose to bring with him, modeling his reign after that of his friend, Logan Church. But Domin may have set too lofty a goal: his normal leadership style isn’t working.

While juggling a homesick Crane, a moody Mikhail, a bullwhip-wielding Taj, servants with murderous intentions, a visiting ex, and a mate on a dangerous goodwill mission, Domin has to figure out his new role alone. He also must determine how to deal with a conspiracy, all the while falling hard for a man who, for the first time in Domin’s life, reciprocates that love. Whether Domin is ready or not, Fate has stepped in to teach him a lesson: internal threats are just as dangerous as external ones.
It's pretty easy to dislike Domin in the first book of the Change of Heart Series.  He's pretty awful.  But he is not irredeemable.  Domin manages to impress Jin with his behavior and his vision to the point where Domin is made mahes of Logan's tribe.  Domin is even made semel-aten by Jin and Logan.  He has the potential to be a great leader.  I loved watching Domin and Yuri explore their relationship.  Yuri is so far ahead of Domin in understanding their love and it's adorable to watch Domin realize how much he truly loved Yuri.  Koren is kind of a pain in this book as he shows up in Sobek.  I really enjoyed seeing Jin from someone else's eyes as well.  All in all, I love this book as it fits into the series and makes the characters fuller and more real.  There is adult content and possible triggers in the book.  Triggers include talk of sexual assault and rape as well as sex scenes.

You can find Mary Calmes on her blog and you can find all of her books on her author page at Dreamspinner Press.  You can click here to find the series on Goodreads. I give Crucible of Fate 4 Fairies for another lovely foray into the magnificent world of the werepanthers that Mary Calmes has created.
