Oh. My. Gods. (Oh. My. Gods. Book 1) by Tera Lynn Childs

I was worried when I read an online blurb for this book that it would be like reading a female Percy Jackson (which isn't necessarily bad but it's not great either).  I should have known better though, as Oh. My. Gods. reads a bit like Forgive My Fins.  There are slight similarities between Percy and Phoebe but nothing big.  Lesson learned- don't judge a book based on a five sentence online blurb!

Tera Lynn Childs delivers another great, fun female voice with Phoebe, the normal girl whose life is thrown into chaos when her mother returns from her family reunion in Greece with a fiancée and insists that they move immediately to Greece to live together as one family.  So, Phoebe packs everything she can into her allotted six boxes and leaves her best friends and all of her dreams behind.  Upon arriving on the island that she will now call home, she learns that the school her step-dad works for is really a school for the descendants of the Greek Gods.  Not demigods, as in children of a god and a mortal but the descendants of the gods/demigods.  Most of the students are only distantly related to their godly ancestor but they have pretty wicked powers anyway.  Phoebe is the lone normal girl on the island of super kids and it's not fun.  She manages to make friends with two of her classmates but everyone else seems bent on treating her like she's nothing, including her step sister.  But Phoebe loves to run and her desire to race and win may be the key to gaining acceptance from the beautiful people at school and it may just help her learn something big about herself!

I really liked this book.  It was a quick, light and fun read.  It was a great book to veg out with in a sunny lawn chair for the afternoon.  You really relate to Phoebe and her situation.  She's a really likable character.  Her friends are interesting and fun and there is, of course, the requisite hot jock to occupy her time.  All in all, I loved this book and look forward to reading the next one in the series, Goddess Boot Camp.  This book is great for all teen readers and up.  I didn't find anything that would set off the mom radar for tween readers either.  A fun read for all ages!

Oh. My. Gods. gets 3 Fairies from me for being a fun and interesting story about the descendants of the gods.

Remember that Tera has also just begun a new series, the Fins Series, that focuses on a teen mermaid.  You can find the review for Forgive my Fins here!  The next book in the Fins Series, Fins are Forever, comes out on June 28.  Then her new book, Sweet Venom, will be out September 6.  You can always find out more about Tera Lynn Childs and her books on her website and you can follow her on Twitter!

Great review! I've been meaning to pick this up as well, but was afraid it would be Percy Jackson only the female version. Glad to know it isn't!
