2012 Reading Challanges

Well, I had spent 3 hours the other day writing up a review post of 2011's reading challenges and what books I read with the links to the reviews but when I went to check it this morning... blogger had eaten it.  There was no trace of it at all and I couldn't recreate the post so instead, I'm spending today deciding on what reading challenges to do this year.  First is my Goodreads Challenge of 200 books.  I just barely made 200 books in 2011 (and yes, I did count some comics, short stories and novellas) so I feel like that's a pretty good place to start.

Next, I plan on participating in the Debut Authors Challenge hosted by the Story Siren.  I met the goal last year and think I can pretty easily do it again.  The goal for that challenge is 12 books by Debut YA/MG authors.

To go along with my Debut Challenge from last year, I've decided to try the Sophomore Challenge as well this year due to the huge pile of sequels coming out this year to books that I read last year.  Here is my tentative list of books that I'll be reading to meet the 10 books requirement for this challenge:

  1. Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton
  2. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
  3. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
  4. A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford
  5. Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter
  6. The Torn Wing by Kiki Hamilton
  7. Demon Eyes by Scott Tracey
  8. Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel
  9. A Beautiful Evil by Kelly Keaton
  10. Envy by Elizabeth Miles
I've also decided to do the Dystopian Challenge hosted by Benji at The Non Reluctant Reader.  I nearly met my dystopian goal last year with 13 out of 15 books so I'm going to try for the Medium Level of 8-14 books.  I love dystopian books so this should be a great challenge.

I've also decided to do the Steampunk Challenge hosted by Dark Faerie Tales.  I plan on reading at the Gadgets Level with 18 books.  I really enjoy Steampunk and hope to use this challenge to try some new Steampunk authors.

I'm also going to do the Ghostly Reading Challenge hosted by Babbling About Books and Stuff.  I plan on reading at the Are We Dead Yet?  Level.  I love ghost stories ( even though they scare the heck out of me!) so I was excited to find this challenge.

My final challenge of 2012 is the Zombie Challenge from Book Chick City.  I did not even come close to meeting my Zombie Challenge goal of 10 books last year so I want to try again.  I was really scared of zombie books at the beginning of the year but over the course of the year and trying to meet that goal, I found a few zombie books that I could stomach.  I look forward to trying this again.  I plan on reading at the One Chomp Level of 6 books.  Last year, I read about 4.  6 would be an improvement!

So, those are my challenges for 2012.  How about you?  Are any of you doing reading challenges in 2012? remember that you can always see how my challenges are coming by clicking on the Reading Challenges tab at the top of the page.

Hi! We were in the ghost 'challenge' together. There is nothing like it in 2013 (except a vampire one). I found a flexible paranormal one that needs peeps! The banner on my page has the link. ~Carolyn~
