Zara and her friends knew they hadn't solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king's needs grow deeper every day he's stuck in captivity, while his control over his people gets weaker. It's made him vulnerable. And now there's a new king in town..
A turf war is imminent, since the new pixie king, Astley, is moving in quickly. Nick nearly killed him in the woods on day one, but Zara came to his rescue. Astley swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he's one of the good guys. Nick isn't buying it, though Zara isn't as sure -- despite herself, she wants to trust the new king. But it's a lot more than her relationship with Nick that is at stake. It's her life -- and his.
This was a great read. I started and finished it in one night because I just could not put it down. It was lovely to be back in Zara's world where the real and the supernatural collide. In Captivate, we meet Astley who is a young pixie king. He wants to take control of Zara's father's territory before another worse king comes in. Astley is really likable, it's really hard not to root for him as he tries to convince Zara that not all pixies are like her father. I found myself almost liking him more than Nick. Zara is a great heroine who is really relate-able. I enjoyed reading about her in this one. I love the unusual treatment of pixies in this series. It's absolutely fascinating. Jones also uses shape shifters in a new and interesting way. It's really not your typical shape shifter book. All in all, Captivate was a wonderful read about a strange world of scary pixies and heroic shape shifters.
