Mirage (Winterhaven #2) by Kristi Cook Blog Tour

I was so excited to be asked to join this blog tour! I met Kristi Cook in New York during BEA last year and she is just wonderful. I tore through Haven on the first reading so the chance to read Mirage before it came out was too awesome to pass up. Here's the Goodreads blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Violet McKenna is back for her senior year at Winterhaven, and thrilled to be with Aidan after a long summer apart. But when a violent and disturbing vision begins to haunt her, Violet suddenly feels unsure of everything: who to trust, if she is in danger, and—worst of all—whether she and Aidan are really meant to be together.
I'm so glad that I got an ARC for this one from Kristi Cook and the awesome folks at Simon and Schuster. I loved every moment of Haven and the world of Winterhaven that Kristi Cook introduced us to. Violet is a lovely heroine who isn't about to let her future be dictated to her as “destiny”. She makes her own future. I adore that about her- her strength. Then there's Aidan. Aidan is wonderful. I really enjoy the idea of vampires as little slices of history. On the surface you see a New York teen who enjoys hoodies and has plenty of snarky personality but sometimes you catch a glimpse of the nobleman's son from circa 1895. It's a really interesting thought- what would you be like if you could live through so much of history? I think Aidan's done it right- he likes hoodies, punk rock and spends hours in a microbiology lab. He's basically perfect, in my estimation. Mirage picks up at the start of the school year after Haven ended and we're basically thrown in with Violet, you feel anxious and excited to be back at school. The story unfolds with big changes for Vi's group of friends at Winterhaven. Vi learns things that change how she sees others but in the end, she realizes that nothing is certain, you can create change. She believes in those closest to her and she's willing to put that trust and friendship to the test. Violet is such a strong heroine in this book. I really don't want to give too much away but I will say that when the book ended, I wanted to chuck it at the wall because it was over and I wasn't ready for it to be over! Then I grabbed my dark chocolate stash to comfort me while I wished that I could cuddle Aidan. Kristi Cook is a genius and this book should be on everyone's To Read list for this year.

You can find out more about Kristi Cook on her website and you can follow her on Twitter. Mirage earns 5 Fairies for being a book that I couldn't put down!
